What ChatGPT does with a buyer question
Broad questions go to a few large studios
The studios named most often were large ones: across all 60 answers, Keywords Studios was named in 30, Room 8 in 25 and Virtuos in 21. They are what a broad question such as “What are the best game art outsourcing studios?” returns, run after run.
Narrow questions name smaller studios
Asked for studios in one country or for one specialty, it named different studios: 88% of the studios it named on country questions never appeared in any broad answer. On those questions it also named studios listed in this directory, citing our pages for them. Asked once which studios are based in Thailand, it named 10 and, for 3 of them, including FairPlay Studios, cited our Thailand page. Asked three times which game development outsourcing companies in Poland are good, it cited our Poland page in all three answers. Answers vary from one run to the next, so a single answer is a sample, not a verdict.
What it says about a studio
When ChatGPT named a studio, it described it in a line: what the studio does, where it is, how big it is, what it works in, what it has shipped. The share of named-studio lines that stated each fact:

Where it gets those facts
Mostly from the studio itself: 68% of the lines naming a studio cited the studio's own website. Of the 255 own-site citations in the full answers, 152 were a services page and 103 a homepage. It also reads directories: this site was the website cited most often, in 24 of 60 answers, ahead of keywordsstudios.com (19) and wikipedia.org (18).
What a studio can control
- A services page that says what you sell in plain words. “2D character art for mobile games” and “Unity co-development” are phrases a buyer types and ChatGPT repeats; “we bring visions to life” is neither.
- The facts, written as text. City and country, the engines and tools you work in, games and clients you can name, team size and founding year. Logos and portfolio images carry none of that to a crawler.
- Access for AI search crawlers. robots.txt that allows OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot, and a homepage whose text is in the HTML rather than drawn by JavaScript after the page loads.
- A complete listing, with the right country and services. Those two fields decide which of this directory's country and service lists you appear on, and those lists are what ChatGPT cited when it named smaller studios on narrow questions.

Should I block GPTBot to protect my studio website?
You can, and it will not remove you from ChatGPT search. GPTBot collects training data. The crawlers that fetch pages for ChatGPT answers are OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User; for Perplexity it is PerplexityBot, and for Claude, Claude-SearchBot and Claude-User. Keep those allowed in robots.txt if you want to be read and cited.
Do llms.txt or schema markup help a studio get recommended?
Neither has a measured effect on whether AI assistants name or cite a page. The studios ChatGPT named had pages that stated their services, location and engines in plain text. That is the better use of the time.
